Assessment in Education
Provisions should be taken to space the assessments out over several days or weeks, rather than administering them right after engaging the children in reading activities. This will guard against memory recall, particularly on the elemental facts presented in the play. On each testing day, various assessments will be administered at different points and the most challenging forms distributed rather more widely. The assessments will take varying lengths of time spanning from 10 minutes to 1—2 hours, depending on the needs of the individual student. Also, the duration will be influenced by the nature of the question posed. For example, to comprehend fact-oriented questions, the learner may require less time compared to problem-solving or reading comprehension. During each of the testing days, the student will have the chance to take breaks between sessions in which an effort will be made to provide some refreshments, as needed, to improve attention and concentration. Early in the morning, the teacher will meet with the student to conduct the assessments on a one-on-one basis. This is aimed at creating a less intimidating environment, gaining the student's confidence, and allowing the teacher to cultivate a rapport with the student. The rest of the group should also be made to take the assessment on other days after they have had their lunch breaks, since this is the time when most of them will be most settled following their quiet time.
In circumstances where it is not practical to conduct the assessments at a stretch, the people responsible for child care will allocate the first half of the day for assessments and the remaining time for free play, exercises or another type of activity. This has been recognized to be effective for children with attention deficit or those who get easily fatigued. The probe will also consider the student's health condition to ensure that they are not subjected to strain and that their capabilities are not not damaged. If a child faces an injury, contends with dyslexia, or behavioral complication, they will also be accommodated. Cases of cheating will not be tolerated and students will be allowed to get off certain questions if they are unsure about the responses.
